Technology Essentials (TEE) is a program offered by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The certificate prepares graduates for entry-level jobs in high volume manufacturing firms for multi-manufacture industrial machinery operators or partners. The program contains math, computer skills and common electronic manufacturing processes and controls. The program’s goal is to prepare graduates for jobs as equipment operators or partners in industries such as plastics, rubber, automotive, aerospace precision machining, chemical, and other manufacturing. Graduates who are hired will be able to start at the bottom of an organization as a lowly sheet metal workers and work their way up to become one of the company’s top TSOs (technological services personnel).
In today’s modern manufacturing environment, production, shipping and inventory tasks must be performed more efficiently and accurately than ever before. TEE programs offer instruction in electronics design and manufacturing process engineering, which include digital circuit design, synthesis, fabrication, and verification. Graduates of the program have a wide variety of job opportunities available to them. They may find jobs as product designers, product testers, system designers, systems engineers, technicians and production managers. They may also work as sales and marketing support staff.
For the mechanics and technicians who perform jobs such as maintenance works (like scissor lift or portable man lift maintenance), bench work, machine setup and repair, they would need to receive special training to perform those jobs. This is due to the fact that these jobs necessitate specific skills in operating heavy machinery. They must also learn how to work safely while wearing safety equipment. For example, most of the time, they need to wear work gloves (find here – unigloves) to avoid being injured while working in the industries. Graduates of TEE can seek employment as maintenance technicians, service technicians, mechanic supervisors, and service and repair technicians. There are manufacturing centers that require technicians to be available on call 24 hours a day to service machines in the plant. For this reason, these jobs are considered essential in today’s manufacturing environment. As a matter of fact, the American Council for Construction Education reports that there are a projected 4.5 million job openings for technicians and machinists in the construction field in the United States in 2021.
Computers and information technology are very important in the manufacturing industry because of the way they have altered the way businesses are conducted. Without computers and other information technology devices, businesses would not be able to perform their business functions. The manufacturers are always looking for new technicians who have been trained in computer and IT basics and who have passed the TEE certification exam. Therefore, as a layman, you have to get yourself prepared by learning about computer and IT basics so you can get a good career in this field.
There are many manufacturing industries that rely on computer and IT technology fundamentals. Some examples are pharmaceuticals, which relies heavily on chemistry and biochemistry as it uses machines to create effective medicines. Clothing manufacturers, clothing wholesalers, apparel manufacturers and distributors, as well as packaging and fulfillment companies also rely on IT skills in their business operations. Some manufacturers are even self-employed and work as consultants. If you have these skills, you can surely get a good job in any manufacturing company.
However, if you do not have this knowledge and skills yet, you can still become a technician in this field. There are now lots of colleges and institutions offering courses on technology fundamentals. All you have to do is to choose a college that offers courses on technology essentials. Once you have finished your education, you will have to pass a series of examinations or interviews before you will become qualified as a technician. These licensing exams and interviews are very simple and anyone who has passed the exams can easily land a good job.
